bio

I was born in Lubbock and have spent most of my adult life in Texas, but my formative years were in New Mexico. The wonderful mountainous landscapes were my first artistic inspiration. Even earlier, as a toddler, I painted with one grandfather and made collages with the other.

Overseas in the Air Force, I taught myself Oriental landscape and pastel portrait painting. Back in Texas, I used the G.I. Bill to become an abstract painter. My mentors were Ken Zonker at S.H.S.U., Warren Taylor at Midland College, and Neal Wilson at Texas State University where I received a B.F.A. in studio art with a concentration in painting.

I moved to Dallas in 1986 and soon became a member of the 500X Gallery. I later joined the Sally Sprout Gallery in Houston and in 2001 joined the Plush Gallery, which was based in Dallas, but exhibited all over the country. Working with young conceptual artists from around the globe, we put together group shows of installation and performance art. This culminated in the 2006 New York city show manic and wasted.

My work has been exhibited extensively in Texas, Chicago, New York City, and Miami. My last solo show was 10.10.10 and had over 100 paintings, including an installation with a performance on the opening night.

During my career, I would give private lessons to children and adults in my studio. In 2007 I began teaching painting to adults at the Creative Arts Center in east Dallas and in 2008 began teaching after school programs with elementary students for Big Thought/Thriving Minds.
